The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

If fun movies were a genre, that's where you'd find this 1988 movie! This fantasy movie is unlike anything I've seen.  It starts with a group of actors performing the Adventures of Baron Munchausen for their audience who are all in a city being besieged by the Turkish. Then a man claiming to be the real Baron Munchausen shows up to tell them, they've got it all wrong. He also informs his listeners. That he is the only person who can stop this war with the Turkish, because he is the one who started it. Turns out he told the Sultan he could bring him the best bottle of wine he had ever tasted from very far away within a very short time. Little did the Sultan know that the Baron's friend Berthold could run faster than the wind and wears ankle weights to slow him down. Berthold makes it back in the nick of time. The Sultan bet Baron Munchausen all the treasure he could carry, but he didn't know the Baron's friend Albrecht was the strongest man alive and carried away all the treasure save one coin.

The Baron tells the actors that he will go in search of his 2 old friends as well as his friends Gustavus, a dwarf with remarkable hearing and the ability to literally blow the competition away, and Adolphus, who has eyesight so incredible that he could hit a target half way around the world. He leaves in a hot air balloon made of ladies knickers, and his travels take him from the moon to the belly of a giant fish. The Baron may have gathered his crew, but he's still got one problem... They're old, and they've lost their incredible abilities. Will the Baron still be able to defeat the Turkish forces with his band of hasbeens?
