My Favorite Monster (Sinbad Edition)

If there is one thing I love about the trio of Sinbad movies made by Columbia Pictures, it's the monsters and mythological creatures created by Ray Harryhausen. Using a stop motion technique that he called Dynamation, Harryhausen helped create some of the most memorable movies of his time.

Today we will be ranking my top 5 favorite creations of this series, but first a ridiculously brief synopsis of each movie:

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958): Princess Parisa of Chandra is shrunken by the evil magician Sokurah in order to force Sinbad to travel to the dangerous island of Colossa. Only there will they find an ingredient for a potion to restore her to normal size. They must fight Sokurah who is trying to thwart them.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973): Sinbad and his crew race against a master magician to reach the Fountain of Destiny where only one can be crowned ruler of Marabia.

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977): The Evil witch Zenobia has transformed Prince Kassim into an ape. Sinbad must help the Prince's sister, Princess Farah, find a cure before he loses his claim to throne to Zenobia's son.

Now, without further ado, here are my 5 favorite monsters:

5. The siren figurehead of Sinbad's own ship (golden voyage): Koura the magician animates the figurehead to attack the crew and steal a precious map that will help lead him to the fountain.

4. Demon skeletons (eye): The witch Zenobia conjures these ghouls to kill Sinbad in order to stop him from learning what has befallen Prince Kassim and ultimately stop him from lending aid.

3. Minoton the golden minotaur (Eye): Honestly Minoton has very little to do aside from rowing a boat for Zenobia and her son Rafi,  but for some reason I just love him.

2. The 4 armed dancing snake woman (7th Voyage): During pre wedding festivities being held for Princess Parisa and Sinbad, the magician Sokurah turns Parisa's waiting woman into a snake/woman hybrid as part of the entertainment.

1. Kali the many armed goddess (golden voyage): Koura the magician awakens a giant statue of Kali and commands her to fight Sinbad and his crew armed with six swords, one for each arm.

And those are my top 5 picks of Sinbad's Harryhausen creations. Hope you like then as much as I did.
