Death Race 2000

This 1975 film takes place in what was then the future: the year 2000! In this dystopian imagining, society has collapsed and the United Stated is now a totalitarian regime under martial law. In order to keep the people happy, every year the government holds the Transcontinental Road Race, where 5 drivers compete to see how many points they can score by running over pedestrians with their cars while racing across the country. Different pedestrians are worth different points, with the most points being awarded for hitting the very young or the very old.

Not everyone supports the race, however. There is a resistance group led by Thomasina Payne that will do whatever they can to put an end to this atrocity. They actually have Thomasina's great granddaughter Annie become favored driver Frankenstein's navigator. Her job is to help aid in his capture by the resistance and replace him with their own driver. Then the resistance will hold the real Frankenstein's hostage to use as leverage against the President in order to get him to end the race. In addition to this, they have set up traps along the racing routes in order to kill the other drivers. 

Annie and Frankenstein are working against each other in a constant struggle even as feelings begin to grow between them. The question is who will give in to whom as they race against time?
