Son of Frankenstein

Year: 1939
Director: Rowland V. Lee
Roku Channel: Sci-Fi Classics Channel

This movie stars Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, and Bela Lugosi! I thought this film was very good. I didn't go into the movie expecting very much. It is the 3rd movie of the series after all, and those tend to fall flat. This movie stood up for itself however.

Wolf Von Frankenstein is now Baron after his father's passing, and he comes to claim his title and estate with his wife Elsa and young son Peter. He hopes to restore his father's good name, but is met by a chilly reception from the villagers.

Baron Frankensteinis only in the castle a few moments when his father's legacy seems to come alive again within him. It's like it's something in the air there and no Frankenstein man is immune.

Upon checking the laboratory he meets Ygor who has tried to kill him. They somehow remain civil afterwards, and Ygor asks him to wake up the monster who he says has been "asleep" since lightening struck him. Frankenstein believes that the monster can provide science with a lot of valuable information, then of course he and his father would go down in history instead of infamy.
He revives the monster, but it turns out only Ygor can control him, and Ygor has sinister plans of his own.

If you've watched Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein, don't let the Son pass you by!
